All of these windows that open up and down required us to install the sunscreens by using our metal turn clips. Our metal turn Clips turn to apply pressure to hold the outdoor solar screens up against the window.

Direct screwed screen for sidelight window
Explaining how a screen gets attached to a sidelight window.

For the windows that do not open, the solar screens for those windows get direct screwed.

An example of this would be the front sidelight window to the left of the front door.

That window to the left of the front door does not open, therefore we direct screwed that window shade screen to it.

For the windows that open, we use a center support bar. This center support bar sits concealed behind the fabric. Designed to hold the outer framing in position to keep the fabric tight.  For direct screw solar window screens, we do not use support bars because we can stretch the screen fabric tight and screw the screen in to hold it in place.

By and large, all the solar screens for the backside of this home have the same rough dimensions. They roughly are 35 by 60, but there are three different fractional heights that we ended up using.

I no longer install this way as of 2019

Note: presently as of 2019 I direct screw all my solar screens on to all windows.

Presently, windows for new homes are 99% vinyl and require being direct screwed. Today’s vinyl windows can not take turn clips.

Because these types of solar screens Pflugerville TX surface mount onto the windows using turn clips, heights can vary. Depending on if there are rainwater guards (aluminum window flashing) above the window or even wood trim that is in the way, a build height can vary. Some of these Heights use 3/4 as fractions. While other Heights will use 3/8 or even 5/16 as fractions.

For this solar screen Pflugerville Texas homeowner, they put solar screens on the Windows under the patio. They did this for the purpose of being consistent. Now, they did not put a solar screen on that back patio door. In spite of being under the back patio, that door did not need a solar screen. Sometimes people choose to not put solar screens under patios. We have a great post that discusses solar screens under patios what it looks like with them and without them.
